Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Cystinuria
Cystinuria is a rare inherited condition characterized by the abundance of cystine in the urine, which leads to the formation of cystine crystals and stones in the kidney, ureter, and bladder.1
Cystine stones are recurring, and can cause sharp pain in the side, pain while urinating and blood in the urine.1
Cystinuria is a lifelong condition, in which cystine stones tend to reoccur. To reduce the chances of cystine stone formation, healthcare providers recommend drinking lots of water, making dietary adjustments and reducing salt intake.2
