What are VENXXIVA™ (tiopronin) Delayed-Release Tablets?

VENXXIVA is a proven treatment for cystinuria. It can help you find relief, by reducing the frequency and severity of cystine stone formation.1

VENXXIVA is the same proven tiopronin you may have taken previously.1 It is accompanied by Cycle Vita™, a dedicated support program for eligible* patients, tailored to your unique needs.

The goal of VENXXIVA is to maintain low cystine concentration in the urine to prevent kidney stone formation.2

What is tiopronin?

Tiopronin is an FDA-approved medication for the treatment of cystinuria.2 It is well tolerated in patients with cystinuria,3 and found to improve health-related quality of life (HRQOL) compared with patients not taking tiopronin.4

A multi-center clinical trial found that:

  • 71% of patients treated with tiopronin stopped new stone formation.1
  • 94% of patients treated with tiopronin formed new stones at a reduced rate.1

Side-by-side kidney diagrams, one unaffected by cystinuria and one affected. The affected kidney shows a comparison of cystine buildup —untreated versus treated with tiopronin. The treated area shows reduced cystine buildup.

How does it work?

In the kidneys of an unaffected person, cystine in the urine is reabsorbed into the bloodstream by transporter channels.5

In a person affected by cystinuria, the transporter channels do not work and cystine remains in the urine. When cystine concentration is high, cystine crystals and stones form more easily.5

VENXXIVA (tiopronin) and cysteine pair up to form tiopronin-cysteine. The tiopronin-cysteine pair is more soluble than cystine (cysteine-cysteine pair), which helps to lower cystine concentration in the urine and decreases the risk of cystine stone formation.
